Academics

High School Academics

High school academics at Chesterfield County Public Schools are designed to be comprehensive, flexible, and student-centered. Each student can personalize their learning experience through a combination of core courses and a wide variety of electives that reflect their individual interests, career goals, and post-secondary plans.

Students can also participate in workplace learning experiences that help them explore potential career pathways and build real-world skills. As coursework becomes more advanced, students gain access to credentialing and college credit opportunities through programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, and International Baccalaureate (IB).

Courses and Opportunities

Course offerings include everything from world languages and career & technical education (CTE) to fine arts programs such as band, orchestra, chorus, visual art, and photography.
While not every course is offered at every school, the CCPS Program of Studies provides detailed information about available classes, specialty center programs, and technical education pathways.

Each student’s course selections are aligned with their career interests and diploma requirements, ensuring that every learner has a meaningful and engaging academic experience. Parents are encouraged to review these course choices annually and collaborate with school counselors to explore available options.

Academic and Career Planning

Every student enters high school with an academic and career plan developed during eighth grade.
Counselors meet with students each year to update this plan, monitor graduation requirements, and recommend elective courses that align with their goals. This personalized approach ensures students remain on track toward earning their chosen diploma and preparing for college, career, or beyond.
