Bus Routes

Transportation Services

The Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) transportation system is the largest in central Virginia, carrying over 55,000 students daily across 2,500 routes and covering more than 26,000 miles each day.

School bus transportation is available to most students following School Board Policy 7160, accessible on oneccps.org under the School Board → Policies section. Families should keep student transportation details updated by logging into ParentVUE to verify home and alternate addresses.

Bus Stops and Safety

Bus stops are placed in safe locations whenever possible, with a maximum walking distance of 0.3 miles for grades PK–5 and 0.5 miles for grades 6–12 during the school year. Stop locations may vary for summer routes.
Parents can view bus stop details using e-Link with their student’s ID. Students must be at their stop five minutes before pickup, as buses cannot wait.

Bus Tracking with My Stop

Families can monitor bus locations using the Versatrans My Stop app or via computer at chesterfield.tylertech.com/elinkrp/.

The GPS map updates every five seconds to show real-time bus movement and estimated arrival times. If the app is unavailable, students should still arrive five minutes before the scheduled pickup.

Express Cards for Student Safety

Express Cards (RFID) are used by students in PK–5 to enhance safety when boarding and exiting buses.
Students scan their card against a sensor that confirms their correct bus stop. The card does not track students it only records bus entry and exit points for parent and driver verification.

Cards may also be used in school libraries and cafeterias, and students should bring them daily.

Bus Conduct and Responsibility

Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to follow all bus rules and directions from the driver.
All buses are equipped with surveillance cameras for safety. Misbehavior may result in suspension of bus privileges.
Parents are encouraged to remind children to show respect for the bus, drivers, and neighborhood property near bus stops.

Bus Safety

School buses are considered an extension of the classroom, so students must follow all safety rules to protect themselves and others.
Respecting the driver, staying seated, and following directions help keep every ride safe and smooth.

Versatrans e-Link and My Stop App

Versatrans e-Link provides secure access to your child’s transportation schedule, including assigned bus routes and stops.

My Stop App

The My Stop mobile app gives parents real-time GPS updates on their student’s bus during morning and afternoon routes.
You can track the bus location, view estimated arrival times, and get instant updates if delays occur.

Download the Versatrans My Stop app from your mobile app store or access it online at chesterfield.tylertech.com/elinkrp/.

Specialty Centers, Governor’s Schools & CodeRVA

Specialty Centers, Governor’s Schools & CodeRVA

Chesterfield County Public Schools provides transportation for students attending specialty centers, governor’s schools, and CodeRVA. Our goal is to ensure every student has reliable access to their school programs, regardless of where they are located.

Morning Schedule

In the morning, students are picked up from their neighborhood bus stops and transported to one of two hub locations Bird High School or Clover Hill High School.
At these hubs, students transfer to another bus that takes them directly to their assigned specialty center, governor’s school, or CodeRVA.

Students who do not take the bus should arrive at their assigned hub before 7:35 a.m. to ensure an on-time departure.
If either CCPS or the partner school district is closed due to weather or holidays, transportation will not be provided.

When CCPS schools are closed but governor’s schools or CodeRVA remain open, pickup will take place at the middle school within the student’s attendance zone. Bus departure schedules are provided in advance for those days.

Afternoon Schedule

In the afternoon, students return to Clover Hill High or Bird High to transfer to a bus that will drop them off at an express stop located within three miles of their home.
Some students attending governor’s schools or CodeRVA may be dropped directly at their express stop for parent pickup, depending on their route.

Center-Based Gifted Programs

Students enrolled in center-based gifted programs have transportation options based on their school’s location.

  • Students attending a program within their own zone may ride their regular neighborhood bus.
  • Students attending a program outside their zone must be driven to a designated bus stop within three miles of their home.

If parents believe their designated stop is farther than three miles, they may submit a review request using the online form.
Students who are not taking the bus should not arrive at school before 7:15 a.m.

In the afternoon, gifted program students are transported to their zoned high school, where they may transfer to another bus for their regular neighborhood route. Parents who prefer to pick up their children directly can do so at the program site.

When CCPS Is Closed

During Inclement Weather

If Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) are closed due to severe weather, no transportation will be provided.
All bus services, including those for specialty centers, governor’s schools, CodeRVA, and private placements, are automatically canceled for the safety of students and staff.

During a CCPS Student Holiday

When CCPS is closed for a student holiday but Governor’s Schools or CodeRVA remain open, families are responsible for morning transportation to the middle school within their attendance zone.
From there, buses will depart to take students to their assigned program.

After classes, buses will transport students directly to their express stop a location within approximately three miles of their home where parents can pick them up.

Private School Transportation During Weather Changes

When bad weather impacts school hours, transportation for students attending private schools will follow these guidelines:

  • If your child’s private school is within Chesterfield County:
    Transportation follows CCPS’s schedule.
Example: If CCPS opens two hours late, your child’s bus will arrive two hours later than usual. If CCPS closes completely, no transportation will be provided.
  • If your child’s private school is outside Chesterfield County:
Transportation follows the most restrictive schedule between the two districts.
Example: If CCPS opens two hours late but Henrico County Public Schools are closed and your child’s school is in Henrico then no transportation will be available.
  • If your child lives outside Chesterfield County:
Transportation also follows the most restrictive rule based on both school systems.
Example: If CCPS is open but the student’s home locality closes schools, transportation will not be provided.
